Student Spotlight: Emily Lewis

I was born in August, and my parents were just thrilled to have a Friday the 13th baby. I went to Park Spanish Immersion school and St. Louis Park Middle School until I moved to Maple Lake in seventh grade. I immediately joined confirmation and from then on I’ve been super involved in all Zion’s youth programs. Last summer I started working at Camp Wapo where I’ve been attending since I was six and there I found my second home and plan to stay for a long time.

Plans for next year:

I’m attending Bethel university, majoring in Missional Ministries, with a minor in creative writing and in Spanish.

Go to Bible verse:

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
~ 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV

One thing you wish you could tell your younger self:

God is there for you, talk to Him!

Favorite youth group memory:

For context, I’ve been a dancer my whole life so I pick up choreography quickly. One day when I was a freshman, my friend Kaylyn downloaded this app called TikTok and she always wanted to do the dances, so she coaxed me into doing them with her. So ever since freshman year, at least once a week, Kaylyn will walk into the youth room and pull me aside and teach me to do a TikTok dance with her.

One thing you love about yourself:

I love my ability to address groups, giving speeches, or leading Bible studies.

What does having a strong faith mean to you:

To me, having strong faith means practicing your faith all the time, not just thinking about God when you’re at church or at camp, but bringing God with you all day, not just when it’s convenient.

Favorite God moment:

I wrote about this in my college application essay, but an awesome God moment for me was when we had to be storm sheltered at camp, week 7, and while we were waiting out the storm I helped a kid pick out their confirmation verse, the same way a counselor helped me pick out my verse years ago.
