People of faith are people of prayer.

God Pause Daily Devotions are short, meaningful reflections on the following Sunday’s lessons and gospel delivered directly to your e-mail box.
Prayer deepens our connection with our Heavenly Father and leads to spiritual power and action. In prayer we seek God, worship Him, humble ourselves before Him, and receive His wisdom. As we spend time with Him, our lives increasingly reflect Him to those around us.
We all need prayer, support and encouragement at times. Zion is committed to intercessory prayer—prayer on behalf of others and on behalf of the work of the church. Each week, staff pray for a segment of our members and worshiping friends. We encourage everyone who desires prayer on his or her behalf or on behalf of another, to use the resources on this page.
In prayer, we speak to God about joy and sorrow, gain and loss, celebration and grief. God promises to always hear our prayers and provide as God sees that we need. We pray as a community during worship and we pray individually in our personal times. We pray for ourselves, our friends and families, the world, and anything that is in our hearts.
Good and gracious God, we ask that you pour your abundant care on all who are in need of healing and wholeness of any kind. Strengthen those on the edges of society and all who feel broken, weak, alone, oppressed, or ignored. We pray for those in the Zion community whose needs are known only to you, and ask you to bless those in our lives whom we now bring before you in our hearts.
We offer thanksgiving and praise for our blessings, O God, for your creation and the daily gifts that sustain us, and for those who work the earth to feed the world. We give you thanks for Jesus, our Savior, and ask your forgiveness when we stray from his care. And we thank you for the Holy Spirit, sent to us to guide us on our daily journey. Give us trust to follow where you are sending us and the courage to boldly enter new places in the name of Jesus. Help us to put our trust only in you, and lead us to be ministers of your light to those living in darkness, that your will be done at all times.
In the certain hope that nothing can separate us from your love, we offer these prayers to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who taught us to pray,
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen
Prayers for Healing
Prayer of Gratitude
Lord, teach me to offer you a heart of thanksgiving and praise in all my daily experiences of life. Teach me to be joyful always, to pray continually, and to give thanks in all my circumstances. I accept them as Your will for my life. I long to bring pleasure to Your heart daily. Help me to see that in the most difficult of times and circumstances, blessings abound. Amen
I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
Prayer of Unity
Dear God, I ask that you fill me and all with your Spirit of love and unity among all across this nation. I ask for your help to set aside my differences and look to the greater cause, the cause of Christ. I ask that you would help me to truly live a life of love. I know that this is only possible through the power of your Spirit, so I pray for your Spirit to move across our land in fresh ways. Turn your people back to you. Draw others to come to know you. Thank you that you are always with us to give us great purpose and hope. Amen
Let all that you do be done in love.
1 Corinthians 16:14
Prayers for the Sick
Be near me in my time of weakness and pain; sustain me by your grace, that my strength and courage may not fail; heal me according to your will; and help me always to believe that what happens to me here is of little account if you hold me in eternal life, my Lord and my God. Amen.
Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,
Dear God, you are the comfort and strength to those who suffer in any way. You know the needs of all those in this congregation, this community, and the world. We pray that the Coronavirus might be contained and controlled. Bring healing to all who are sick or hurting that they may feel your presence and know your love and peace. I especially pray for these people in my life: _________. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayers for Caregivers
God of Love, as a caregiver, I need the grace to be loving even when I do not love all that I am asked to do. It is extremely difficult to watch the one I love slowly lose their ability to care for self and to witness their pain of illness. More is demanded of my time and sometimes there just doesn’t seem to be enough of that in the day to tend to all that needs to be done. Help me prioritize my day with being present to (names of care receivers) as I care for his/her needs and wants. Ultimately, at the end of the day when I lay my head on my pillow, I want to say I lived this day with love.
For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do. Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.
Dear God, we give you special thanks and praise for all those who are working right now to improve the lives of others. Pour your blessings on those providing medical care, those who are caring for family members, those who are searching for healing cures, and all who are making an extra effort to reach out to friends, neighbors and strangers. Fill the hearts of those who serve with compassion and patience and guide the important work they do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for the Moment
We pray for our families, for every relationship most dear to us, that you would guard our time, and our lives together. We ask for your ability to quickly forgive hurts, for a renewed heart of compassion, for love and faithfulness to be evident in every decision and action.
Prayer for Wholeness
Dear God, the Great Physician, your Son Jesus healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, and made the broken whole again. Touch the wounded places in my life, bring relief from any pain, and make me whole in mind, body, and spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for Anxiety
Dear God, the stresses and anxieties of our lives can be overwhelming and exhausting. Pour your Spirit on me and all who are in need of calmness and confidence at a time of unknowns. Help me to put my trust in you to guide me through life’s difficulties and to cast my cares onto you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for Hope
Dear God, when we face tough situations we can fear losing hope. Help me to put my hope and trust in you and your unfailing promises. Give me a renewed vision of all the love you have shown, and strengthen me with the knowledge of your constant presence no matter what. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for the Abused
Dear God, your Son Jesus was abused and oppressed, yet became victorious through your power. Be with all who are victims of abuse of any sort and turn the hearts of the abusers. Break open the prisons of fear and despair, shatter the chains of pain and confusion, and fill these people with your strength to find faith, hope, courage, and wholeness for the future. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for Thanksgiving
Dear God, I thank you for all the blessings in my life, for life itself, for family and friends, for the community of Zion, for all that I have that others in this world may be lacking. Help me to always look to recognize how you watch over me and provide as you see that I need, and let my prayer forever be, “Thy will be done.” In Jesus’ name, Amen.
