Crafted in Christ

The monthly women's Bible study continues it's theme of "Crafted in Christ" on August 16 at 1:30pm in the library. The study is taken from the ELCA Gather magazine,  and each month's lesson stands on its own so even if vacation takes you away from Zion for a month, come for the others.

We'll use the images of “Quilt Cutting and Piecing” to explore how our lives and Christian communities come together into a cohesive whole, including people of all shapes and sizes, abilities and talents.

No need to be a quilter, but if you are, you're welcome to share some of your insights and creations with fellow studiers! There's no cost; no need to sign up in advance.

Fare for All
Fare for All is a non-profit, cooperative purchasing program that sells packages of frozen meat and fresh produce for up to 40% off retail prices at Zion and around the state. Sales are open to all, no questions asked. With the cooler weather, sales are moving back indoors with safety precautions:
  • The Food Group requires that all staff, volunteers, community partners and customers wear a mask or face covering (even if you're fully vaccinated).
  • Please practice physical distancing while moving through the line. Consider arriving a little later in the sale- there’s usually no waiting and we very rarely run out of food!
  • Line flow will be limited to allow only one customer at the register at any one time. Only one shopper per household is encouraged.
  • For the sake of efficiency, credit, debit, or EBT payments are preferred. Cash is accepted, NO checks.
*Sales are subject to change last minute. Check the FFA website or Facebook for updates or sign up for email reminders.

New MembersThis event is for those who are interesting in becoming members of Zion, and for those who have recently transferred membership from a previous congregation.

This event begins with a meal and then includes an informal gathering with an introduction to Zion ministries and staff, an opportunity to meet others at Zion, and information from the pastors about what it means to be Lutheran and to be a member of Zion.

Blessing Closet Distribution

The Blessing Closet will have its Quarterly Distribution of FREE clothing for children and their parents at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 9am to 2pm. Distribution is open to all families without any appointments, restrictions, qualifications, or registration. Just show up!

Along with the free clothing on August 20, the Blessing Closet will be distributing a packet of school supplies and the Salvation Army with be distributing a backpack to all school age children (K-12) by appointment only from 9:30am to 1:30pm. It is not necessary for the children to attend, but each child and grade level must be listed on your signup appointment.

Zion’s Blessing Closet has been helping families from Buffalo and the surrounding communities with clothing for over 6 years, and with the current rising prices, it can be a true ‘blessing’ for families to be helped with their back-to-school budget.

To help serve this great mission, call 763.317.6052 and join the volunteer group that administers this program and/or arrange to drop off a donation of slightly used clothing. Also, funds can be donated through your monthly mission’s envelope by designating  ‘local missions’ on your envelope and writing in Blessing Closet in the memo line of your check or give online at https://bit.ly/zionbuffalomissiongiving.

Golf Outing

Golfers and non-golfers are encouraged to contribute to this year’s worthy mission project.

It time to sign up for the 2022 Zion Golf Outing. This year’s event will be on August 29, 2022 at the Albion Ridges Golf Course. The format will again be a Four Person Team Scramble with a shotgun start at 12 noon . Registration will be open at 10:30am at the course. The cost is $80/golfer which includes golf with a cart and a hotdog or brat lunch. You can sign up online and either pay online with a credit card, pay at the event with cash/check only, or drop by church and pay with cash/check.

If you don’t have a full team we will get you paired up with others. Signups close August 25th so get your foursomes together or sign up as an individual and we will get you paired up with other golfers.

Partnering with Mission Jamaica to Build a Home

Our goal is to raise $5000+

All proceeds from this year’s Golf Outing Event will go to our Mission Jamaica mission partner to be used to purchase home building materials. For a number of years, Zion has sent mission teams to Jamaica. Our mission teams have provided medical services, support to an orphanage and have helped build numerous small homes in Jamaica. This year funds will buy the building materials needed for a very simple one room home for a predetermined needy family in Jamaica.

Not a Golfer? Other Ways to Help

If you don’t golf, you can help in other ways. You can provide financial support to the mission project. If you wish to donate please write checks to Zion Lutheran and write “Mission Jamaica Home Build” in the memo line. If you would like to join us at the course, we can use some help with registration and with some of the side games that the golfers participate in. Also, we are always looking for some prizes or silent auction items. If you can help or have any questions, please call or chat with Steve Peterson at 612-819-7783.

Look at the CAT - Fellowship Hall

Building
Fellowship Hall

The members of the Transition Team and Council have been digesting all you told us through the CAT Survey. We are grateful for the great participation in the survey—thank you! There is a great deal of information to integrate and put to good use. We have heard from the CAT Survey consultant and are eager to share with you what we are learning from your responses to the survey. We are inviting all to join us for “Looking at the CAT”. To make this available to the most people, we thought it best to wait until September to take this “Look at the CAT” together.

Meanwhile, the Transition Team and Call Committee will be meeting together to integrate what you’ve told us through the survey into our search for the next Senior Pastor of Zion.

We are providing 3 different opportunities for you to find a time to “Look at the CAT” that suits your schedule:
  • Sunday, September 18 & 25, in Fellowship Hall, between worship services
  • Wednesday, September 21, at 7 PM in Fellowship Hall.
We are eager to hear your responses, questions, and comments about what we have collectively learned via the survey!
