Mission Jamaica Won!

We had a great Zion golf outing on Monday, August 29. God again blessed our annual golf outing with a beautiful summer day. We had a total of 56 golfers enjoying the day while raising funds in support of our Mission Jamaica partner. The 1st place winners of the golf scramble were a foursome of Cliff & Andy Eng, Rod Erickson, and Andy Tscholl. An interesting note was shared by Cliff Eng of the winning team. Cliff is from Cokato

The Village of Hope Tackles Food Security Challenges in Zambia

Twelve years ago at our Global Mission partner, the Village of Hope, Zambia, Benedict Schwartz bought 1,000 fingerling tilapia for the 7 acres of wetlands on their site. This year, Benedict designed a cage for catching tilapia, and two months ago they used it for their first catch. They emptied the cage and there were enough fish to feed all 70 people in the Village of Hope for one month. The cage went out again the next month and again

Zion’s Redeemer Connection

Global Missions welcomed Sally Ankerfelt, Minister of Outreach at our partner church, Redeemer Lutheran in Minneapolis, at the July committee meeting. Sally provided us with an update on the happenings at Redeemer and specifically asked that we share Redeemer’s gratitude and appreciation for Zion’s financial support over the years and prayers during these times. Their most exciting news is that they have called a new pastor. Pastor Jen Collins will begin her call at Redeemer in mid-August! Interim pastor, Peter

Mission Jamaica Update

A Mission Jamaica trip provides a way for us to love and serve our neighbor as Jesus taught us (Mark 12:30-31), and a time for reflection and spiritual rest. Over the past years, Zion members have served on several projects in the Montego Bay, Jamaica area: Ja’Bode is short for “Jamaican Abode.” Mission Jamaica missionaries help make simple, decent, and affordable housing a reality for families with the greatest need. West Haven Children’s Home is a residential facility that is

AKCLI Update

As AKCLI looks into 2021, please be praying for these upcoming projects: The Lord is bringing more children to The Village of Hope with special needs. These children are a severely unserved segment of the rural population.  The School of Hope wants to build a classroom for special needs students and a classroom for Preschool and Kindergarten children. The Hope College of Education is beginning an intensive agriculture education program to prepare teachers to teach agriculture. Funds are needed to provide scholarships

Redeemer Update 2022

Our mission partner, Redeemer Lutheran Church, in North Minneapolis is a multicultural and multiracial congregation. Zion and several Lutheran congregations help support Redeemer with prayer, financial gifts, and volunteering. The call process to replace retired Pastor Kelly Chatman was delayed, yet they hope to have a new pastor in place by Easter Despite the challenges of the past two years, Redeemer has found creative ways to still worship and do meaningful outreach to their neighbors. Like at Zion, good weather

Future Mission Trip Opportunities

For many years, Zion has provided global travel opportunities to participate with our mission partners in Jamaica and Zambia. The schedule has been that for odd years (2019), Jamaica is the destination. During the even years (2020), the travel destination is Zambia, Africa. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in both of these mission trips and have found it’s a great way to serve others and immerse myself with people of different cultures. With continuing challenges

New Wells at the Village of Hope

Two months ago, those at our global mission partner, All Kids Can Learn International/Village of Hope, were shocked to wake up without water in the Village of Hope in Zambia, Africa. They re-routed water pipes from the veggie gardens to provide water for the Village. At the same time, they learned that two of the Irrigation wells were pumping mud; they too were going dry. What a sinking feeling!! Naturally, they need water for drinking, cooking, bathing, and for irrigation
