Sunday School Starts

Sunday School is offered for age 3 to grade 5 during the 8:30 and 10:30 worship services.

Zion's Sunday School program follows a large group/small group model. Children will begin in worship with their families and then attend Sunday School after the Children's Message. When the children’s message is over, kids will gather for large group time to join in fun music, videos, activities, and skits to learn about the bible stories. After large group, kids will then follow their teachers to a classroom for small group time. Small group time is a time to dig deeper, ask questions, make crafts, do experiments, build friendships, and strengthen our relationship with God.

Storytime with Jesus - Elijah

Classrooms
Elijah
Joel
Micah

Storytime with Jesus is a new opportunity at Zion for families with young children.  This is for all caregivers and children at Zion and in the wider community.  In other words: you do not need to be a member to attend---all are welcome!

The focus is on children learning through stories, songs, and play that Jesus loves them.

When?
First Tuesday of each month, beginning October 4, at 9:15 am to 10:30 am, in the Joel / Elijah / Micah classroom (at the intersection of the main hallway). If you can’t be here by 9:15, come anyway!

9:15-9:30    Arrival.  Kids play and socialize.
9:30-9:45    Learn through song and movement.
9:45-10:00   Storytime.
10:00-10:20  Fun activity, snack, socialize.
10:20-10:30  Clean up and closing prayer.

Families are welcome to join this new opportunity for a themed story time each month.  Caregivers are encouraged to socialize while the children learn and play together.   No registration required, just come and enjoy!

~To tell the old, old story  Of Jesus and his love.~

Meals on Wheels Delivery Begins

Contact
Julie Pryor
juliepryor@zionbuffalo.org

Zion has the opportunity to help feed our community during the month of November!

We provide three volunteer drivers each day to deliver meals in and around the Buffalo area. Sign up early, since the sign up is now open to the community as well as Zion. You don’t want to miss your opportunity!

(Note that the sign up may look different than it used to because it is prepared by the community center rather than Zion.)
  • Meals are picked up at the Buffalo Community Center. 206 Central Avenue (across from the post office).
  • It is a great way for families of all ages to serve together.
  •  GPS on your phone or in your car makes it so easy to follow the route!
  • Parking spots are available in the back parking lot behind the community center.
  • Three route drivers are needed each day.
  • Meals are ready at 11am or a bit earlier.
  • Deliveries are being done on Weekdays, Monday through Friday.
  • Routes usually take 45-60 minutes to complete.
Your willingness to help is greatly appreciated!

Harvest of Hands

Please help make this the best annual festival yet!

The Harvest of Hands annual event is held at Zion to feed the hungry in our own community and around the world. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, November 5, and all proceeds will benefit the Buffalo Food Shelf and a global hunger project.

This year’s event will include a new café area this year serving coffee, tea, hot cocoa, apple cider, and baked goods.

Craft groups will continue to finish many projects in October. Craft groups will meet in the Wilderness Room (behind the kitchen) every Wednesday evening in October at 7pm. All are welcome at the craft sessions, either to work on the planned projects or to bring your own projects and enjoy the time with friends. Join us for fun, fellowship, and a sense of accomplishment.

Think about how you might volunteer for the event and/or donate items for the bake sale and new café area. Cash donations can be will be used to help buy supplies.

Volunteer signup will be available here soon

As you are doing your fall cleaning, remember to set aside items for the white elephant sale. Please bring your white elephant items to the Red Sea room from October 31 through November 3. Other items needed for the sale are preserves, jams, jellies, salsas, pickles, baked goods, candies, dried flowers, plants, crafts, and silent auction items. Items can be brought to the Wilderness room.

Crafters can also work on projects at home. Supplies are available for home projects. Bring in your completed projects by November 3. Contact Joy Arens for more information.

All Saints Sunday Remembrance

Sunday, November 6 is recognized as All Saints Sunday, a day of remembrance for all of the saints that have shown us how to live a life of faith and commitment. We bring those people to mind during our Sunday morning worship, in our prayers and songs, and as we celebrate communion together as the body of Christ.  We are thankful for the saints, both living and remembered, who inspire, challenge, love, and teach us each day.

Rather than hold a separate Service of Remembrance on All Saints Sunday this year, members of the congregation will also have an opportunity to leave the name(s) of their Saints, loved ones, who live with God in eternity, on a piece of paper which will then be placed in the prayer "wall".

Paper and pens will be available next to the screen in the lobby/narthex. People can add names to the screen throughout the morning. Our staff will hold them in a special time of prayer that week.

This orientation to membership provides an introduction to Zion ministries and staff, an opportunity to meet others at Zion, and a little about what it means to be Lutheran and to be a member of Zion. Those that decide to become members will be formally received into our congregation on a following Sunday. Orientations are held about twice a year.

The orientation will include:
  • The staff and Outreach Committee will join you for lunch after the last worship service (11:45am).
  • Program begins around 12:25pm and will end around 1:45pm.
  • Activities for young children will be available after the meal
  • Plenty of informal conversation with staff and other prospective new members.
  • An overview of a wide variety of Zion programs and ministries.
  • Your photo will be taken for the bulletin insert on New Member Sunday (or you may email your own photo to Angela in advance).
  • Information for church records will be verified.
