Who is @ZionBuffalo

• Zion Lutheran is a large ELCA congregation in Buffalo, Minnesota (about an hour west of Minneapolis).
• Look around to learn more about our worship services, history, or see our current newsletter.
• The real live person behind @ZionBuffalo is Angela in the church office.
• Our other accounts include @ZionPrays, @ZionYouth, and some staff accounts.

If you follow me

You will see a mix of announcements, links re-tweets and thoughts related to Zion and the local Buffalo community.  Some days a handful of tweets and some days nothing.

Will I follow you?

• The @ZionBuffalo account follows members & friends of the congregation and a limited number of other local or Lutheran organizations that members may be interested in.
• The @ZionPrays account follows some devotional resources that members may be interested in.
• Individual staff members follow some others of interest on their own separate accounts.

What Is Twitter?

In their own words "Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?" But in reality that's just one of the possibilities, it can be many things to many people.

• A way to stay in touch (at least in a casual way) with friends - very much like facebook status updates without all the other notifications, applications, and such.
• A visit to a coffee shop where you can stop in and just see what's going on and what people are talking about.
• A place to find and follow others who live near you or who share the same interests.
• A source for breaking news reported by both media organizations and individuals.
• A place to get and share links and nuggets of advice.

Ready to Jump In?

Join Twitter

• Go to twitter.com and click on "Get Started--Join!"
• Choose a username, etc. and sign up.
• Click on "skip" at the bottom of the next page, don't sign up your friends yet.
• Click on "Settings" at the top of the next page
• Update your name, Time Zone, and Location and click Save, leave the rest for now.

Enable SMS (optional)

• Click on the Devices tab, enter your cell phone number, and follow the text message prompts on your cell phone.

Find and Follow

• To explore the 'twitterverse' further, check out who we are following, or a huge directory of Twitter users.
• Click 'Follow' when you find someone interesting
• Turn on device updates if you have enabled SMS and want to receive text messages from that user
• If you decide later that you want to stop receiving text messages, just turn off device updates for that user
• If you decide later that you want to stop receiving information from a user all together, just click 'Following' and then 'Remove'
