Feeding the world … One meal at a time
Harvest of Hands raises funds to help fight world hunger locally and globally. On Sunday, April 15 2012, they will host a “Truckload of Life” community packaging event at Zion. At least 100,000 meals will be packaged for those in need in underdeveloped countries, and awareness of the hunger need in the local community and around the world will be promoted.
Details
- Packaging will take place on Sunday, April 15, 2012, starting at 8:30am.
- At least 100,000 meals will be packaged. Each meal includes rice, soy, vegetables and vitamins, and they are packaged as bags of six meals.
- $25,000 (March newsletter contained a misprint) is needed to fund the packaging (25c per meal, shipping included).
- Surplus funds will help local families through the Buffalo Food Shelf.

Participants include the entire congregation of Zion Lutheran (particularly the Harvest of Hands group, Sunday School students, and youth), other Buffalo area churches, and others from the Buffalo community.
Zion is partnering with OutReach International—Kids Care, based in Union, Iowa, a non-profit, development organization providing sustainable programs for food, water, education, medical, and commerce that produce measurable change. Kids Care packages meals for the most vulnerable around the world.
Non-perishable food items will be collected for the Buffalo Food Shelf the day of the packaging event. In addition, any funds over the packaging event cost will be donated to the Buffalo Food Shelf.
How to Get Involved
- Make a donation to support Truckload of Life (enter your desired donation amount under quantity on the next page)
- Choose your volunteer shift
- Print an event poster for a community bulletin board or local business
- Print info cards to give to friend or put on your counter
