Lent 2012
Lent is a time to reflect on the nature of Jesus and walk with him to the cross. This year everyone attending Zion has a unique opportunity during our six weeks of Wednesday evening services to create a new tradition at home.
Many people have nativity sets with sheep, cows, wise men, angels, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. Each of those pieces tells part of the Christmas story. As the Lenten story unfolds this year, each household will piece together a Lenten set that tells the Lenten story.
The congregation begins our journey toward the cross with worship on Ash Wednesday, February 22. Each household will receive a card to fill out and trade in after worship for a cross, the centerpiece of the set. Another piece of the set will be available after worship each week, to make up the complete set.
The theme of the ‘Character of Christ’ will highlight the qualities of Jesus that each of us seeks to use in our own lives. Items in each Lenten set will tie in those qualities and draw us nearer to Jesus and each other.
Weekly devotion cards will help your household gather together at some point each day, light a candle, pray and read scripture together, and truly experience Lent as you likely haven’t before.
I am looking forward to a great experience and a heartfelt expression of thanks and praise this Lenten season.
See you in worship!
