Stuart Munk

My name is Stuart Munk and I’ve been a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Minneapolis for 5 years. My family joined Redeemer because of its diversity, social action, and welcoming culture. We adopted our daughter from Kenya 7 years ago, and while my wife and I are prototypical Lutherans of North European descent, we understood that it would be important for her to attend a church that reflected our own “mixed” family. Redeemer has served this intent perfectly.

Since joining Redeemer I’ve served as its treasurer, lead the internship committee, been a part of the finance committee, and on the committee that revised the church’s constitution. I’ve also played an active part in Redeemer’s capital campaign, trying to update the physical structure of the church to match the vitality and vigor of the people who fill it.

Redeemer Lutheran church isn’t the richest, nor the biggest, but its communal optimism truly displays, for me, a hopeful future based upon the bedrock of grace, faith, and trust. The words of Redeemer’s motto, “Serving as a Beacon of Hope” for the immediate neighborhood are brought to life daily through after-school programs, tutoring, mentoring ,clergy and congregant participation in neighborhood gatherings, holiday food and gift programs, and countless encounters within the Harrison neighborhood that empower and witness to Redeemer’s call to action.
